After weeks of dilly-dallying (I believe procrastination is one of my misunderstood 'strengths' :)) I am now writing a my first good story! I hope you, dear reader, with all your 1 million and 1 quotidian rants, can pass this on to your family and friends.
Here it is: Filipina Maid who returned P2.1 million back in Hongkong has returned to the Philippines.
Mildred Perez of Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya, an out-of-work domestic helper in HK, was collecting scraps when she found an envelope containing cash and checks equivalent to P2.1 million. If you're a domestic helper in HK, chances are you cannot find a decent income in the Philippines. And if you're down to collecting scraps, that's saying a lot how bad things are. But despite the odds, and the temptation to keep the money, Mildred Perez returned the money to the address on the envelope.
And for that she was given a can of biscuits by the HK addressee. Wow, some gratitude. But this is not a site for hatred...and moving on, she was given return tickets by Congressman Carlos Padilla, plus P150,000 from Padilla and the government of Nueva Vizcaya. Her two children were also given scholarships.
She will go back to HK to attend court hearings against her former employer.
